Talking Points: Compressor Stations Issues
- Compressor stations will be required to maintain the pressure in the pipeline.
- Compressor stations will be need at a minimum every 40-100 miles..
- The estimated total HP for each proposed compressor station location is 130,000 HP. There are four proposed locations: Columbiana, Medina, Sandusky and Lucas Counties in Ohio.
- Compressor stations will require approximately 80+ acres of land which will be “purchased” from landowners or county governments, possibly under eminent domain. Rumor is that these locations have aleady been negotiated (April 2015).
- The compressors will burn natural gas producing both toxic and global warming fumes and a lot of noise.
- The average will be 55 decimals (dBs) which is about the sound of a conversation – and that will occur 24/7. But that is on average with some estimates ranging from 40 – 90 dBs or higher.
- Compressor stations will diminish the vistas..
- To enter a compressor facility requires Personal Protection Equipment including hearing protection, eye protection, head protection, foot protection, and fire retardant clothing. So, how safe could they be?
- Compressor stations have exploded.
- In 2013 an interdisciplinary group of Texas researchers found toxic chemicals were “strongly associated” with air testing surrounding compressor stations.
